1° China Screen d’Or

Une famille au gouffre de Yao Zubiao

A Family in the Sinkhole by Yao Zubiao | Chine 2018 – 71 min

A place of beauty, full of sense, tact and intelligence reveal social issues, both local and universal, all according to a remarkable dramaturgical construction, staging the astonishing scenery -a natural sinkhole-, characters steeped in contradictions, and a pig, an actor in spite of itself. A lot of humanity in this film, where the images, the meaning and the sound come together a superb harmony to offer a modern tale.

2° China Screen d’Argent

Demain Toujours de FAN Jian

Still Tomorrow by Fan Jian  | Chine 2016 – 88 min

A very rich film by the contradictions it reveals to tell a story of an extraordinary character. A social climb, by the beauty of poetry, that no one expected from a woman with a birth disability, both socially and physically. A world where the strength of character and the fragility of the situation, the talent of the mind and the handicap of mediocrity confront each other. An explosive story treated bluntly « in a rocking world » ….

4° Mention spéciale du beau regard

Tortue-le-Roc de Xiao Xiao

Turtle Rock by Xiao Xiao  | Chine 2017 – 101 min

From the very first image, the black-and-white seizes us and gives the tone of a film of Lights. Fulgurance and sweetness. Time imposes itself directly in its eternal and immediate dimensions, as we observe the daily life in this remote mountain village. Light and slowness guide social life in the minds of the protagonists. It creates emotion and serenity that never leaves the film. Beauty illuminates the life of the villagers and of the director who spent his youth there. But reality is also a daily presence: issues related to money, children’s games..… Well after the words « The End » the film remains in the minds, impressed by the beautiful look of love for one’s homeland.
